Who is Teton Transplant
Teton Transplant refers to me, Carter Mackley, a resident of Seattle, Washington, a “transplant” from Southeastern Idaho where I was born and raised. I came up with the name on short notice to log in to a climbing discussion group and the name kind of stuck. In my day job I am a business lawyer. I help entrepreneurs form and run their businesses, growing them to be attractive targets for acquisition or going public. I enjoy working with entrepreneurs. They are the lifeblood of a prosperous society. I am always happy to spend a few minutes with budding entrepreneurs to help them start off on the right foot. My business contact info is here.
On the weekends, I go to the backcountry as much as possible, usually with my three kids. I blog about wildlife and places to hike, climb and kayak at FindingWilderness.com.
My other hobby is offering unsolicited advice on a few public policy issues that are important to me, health care being the most significant. I am not a health care lawyer, but I have two years of post graduate training in health economics as a National Institutes of Health Fellow at U.C. Berkeley. I also have deep personal experience in the health care system. My wife, an insulin-dependent diabetic from the age of 11, would probably not be alive today but for the tremendous technology and resources available in our current system. I believe there is little hope for preserving the best aspects of our current system until the public at large comes to the realization that, no matter what system of financing is used, our health care expenses eventually come from our own pocket, and that the best system will make us face the cost-benefit decision squarely with our personal doctors at the point we receive health care services.
